Hemerocallis Stella de'Oro (Daylilly)
Heat & drought tolerant; full sun or part shade. Easy to grow. Continue to bloom by removing spent flowers. Divide spring or fall into 3 eyes each.

CULTIVATION: Grow in fertile, moist but well drained soil. Full sun. Mulch in autumn or spring. From spring until buds develop, water freely and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-3 weeks. Dry conditions and excesive shade will reduce flowering; some red and purple cultivars are intolerant of heavy rainfall and hot sun. Divide every 3-5 years, or when the number of flowers buds and the size of bloom begin to decline. Plant evergreen species and cultivars in spring rather than autumn.
PROPAGATION: Sow seed in containers in cold frame in autumn or spring; seed hybrids and cultivars do not come true. Divide hardy daylilies in spring or autumn; divide all evergreen daylilies in spring.
PESTS AND DISEASES: Susceptible to rust, hemerocallis gall midge, aphids, spider mites, and thrips. Slugs and snails may damage young leaves. Crown rot is usually a problem only in hihg humidity and temperatures over 90F. In climates with alternating winter freezes and thaws, bacterial leaf and stem rot (spring sickness) may be a problem.
