Imperata cylindrica 'Rubra' (Japanese Blood Grass)
Slender stemmed, rhizomatous, perennial grass from the tropical warm, open grasslands of Japan. Flat, linear, pointed leaves and erect, spike-like panicles of short, silver spikelets, borne in summer.

Striking foliage that looks good grown in front or behind smaller selections, in a light woodland garden or try in containers.

2006 - I did have some critter attempting to make a home in the grass this year. I never was able to catch a glimpse - so not sure what: bird, four legged critter? which ever they must have decided to move on.

CULTIVATION: Grow in moist but well drained , humus rich soil in full sun or light, dappled shade. In cold climates, provide a winter mulch, especially when plants are young.
